Meetup 026: War and Conflict

Last weekend, one of our loveliest, regular members, John Benedict hosted the session on War and writing in conflict. Writing on war or conflict is by far one of those tasks that requires immense research and creative expression. Perspectives beyond understanding, private correspondence with anxious families and friends back home, to powerful outcries seeking to sway public opinion about the war effort – All of this form prerequisites in understanding what and how the war could be penned down.

I must admit, this was one of the most daunting and challenging of exercises ever adhered to at WC. We had to present a story or write-up on a fictional/real-time war, without the obvious use of controversial words as war, death or conflict or even their synonyms. The war had to be reflected in a metaphorical journal of a newsprint article, assuming that the war was censored from any apparent media coverage.

Nevertheless, the war stories that resulted were not just a moving experience to know but also a pleasure to hear! It was lovely to see such a knowledgeable crowd!

See you guys, next weekend, when we have more fun, more writing on another interesting theme! As always, please feel free to share your feedback on the theme and meetup, in the comments section.
