Meetup 028: Graphics to words

Last weekend, Umashankar, a newcomer, but a very dear regular member of WC, made his debut at hosting. Remaking graphic novels into short stories/poems being the agenda for the day, he drove the session home with clear guidelines.

Reference only!

As the creator of a graphic adventure it is important that the art style that is selected, works in harmony with the words on the page. But while remaking or recreating the same magic over a short story, it only takes double the effort. With pictures doing the expression and emotion, comics have only scope for a dialogue or a monologue, but in a short story, explicit descriptions take the place for emotional elements.

The Exercise:

The activity was fairly simple. All we had to do was pick the most impacting graphic novel or comic that impressed on us, since we were kids and provide the essence of the comic strip in a short story format as opposed to a graphic content.

The task being fairly simple, we derived the best stories of every nostalgic comic we had known, by the end of the session and the thoughtful process of feedback, helped us learn better and more.

See you guys, next weekend, when we have more fun, more writing on another interesting theme! As always, please feel free to share your feedback on the theme and meetup, in the comments section.
