Last weekend, we had one of our regular members, Dipro Chatterjee, hosting a session. Dipro is one of the foremost write club members we have had and has been an ardent and favorited regular since his introduction. His work usually is a true mirror to his creativity and poignancy.

The Exercise:

The task was fairly simple. We had to frame an allegory with one of the socio-economic issues that the world was facing today. For the uninitiated, an allegory is a complete narrative which involves characters, and events that stand for an abstract idea or an event. A symbol, on the other hand, is an object that stands for another object giving it a particular meaning. Allegories are composed of several symbols or metaphors.

For example, Plato in his “Allegory of Cave” tells a story of how some people are ignorant and at the same time, some people “see the light” – stands for an idea and does not tell a story.

It was a wonderful session on a thought provoking note. The work up of writing an allegory, with distinct elements, attracted just as many amazing stories. At the end of the day, we were all left in little brain pools of our own, with our thinking pots burning over every current-day issue. Thank you Dipro, for the session.

Cheers everyone! Meet you again next weekend! Stay tuned to know more on how we roll!
